Artist Statement
I am an intuitive painter, and I use many different methods. I work from life, from photographs, and from imagination. I enjoy vibrant color and bold brushwork. Foremost, I am interested in what shapes, forms, line, space, and color can do and suggest when I manipulate them. I am rarely inclined to begin with the concept in my work. For me, painting is usually an act of discovery and experimentation. This in no way means that I don’t find content and expression as I work, but simply that I prefer it to grow out of the process rather than have it direct my process. Even so, I rarely begin a painting without a reference to the real world. I find my starting points in the landscapes, interiors, and people around me.
